ઉજ્જૈનના માણેકશાહManekshah of Ujjain
By tradition, in his previous birth Shri Manibhadra Vir was Manekshah, a devout Jain shravak of Ujjain whose guru was Acharya Shri Hemvimalsuri. During his guru's chaturmas at Agra, Manekshah was deeply moved by the teaching on the glory of Shri Shatrunjay (Palitana), and resolved to go there on foot for the navanu yatra and end it with a chhath (two-day fast) under the Rayan tree.

With his guru's blessings he set out on Kartak Poonam. Near present-day Magarwada the group was attacked by dacoits. Manekshah fought to protect the others and gave his life there, his mind fixed on the Navkar Mantra and on Shatrunjay, and he was reborn as Shri Manibhadra Vir dev.

Later, his guru's disciples were troubled by Bhairavs. When the guru sat in dhyan at Magarwada, Manibhadra Vir came to his help and subdued them. In gratitude the guru installed the pindi at Magarwada on Maha Sud 5 and had the temple built there.
