Shree Ughroj Manibhadra Vir Jain Tirth stands in Ughroj village of Mandal taluka, Ahmedabad district, about 25 km from Becharaji and 24 km from Viramgam. Devotees come from across Gujarat for darshan of Shri Manibhadra Vir, whose white murti is seated in a shrine beside a shikharbandh temple of carved pink stone.
Shri Manibhadra Vir
By tradition Manibhadra was a great king, devoted to the Jain religion and its teachings, of enormous wealth and fond of the 36 musical instruments. For his deep devotion he was made the kshetrapal, the protector of the area, and he is highly respected among the Tapagachchh Shwetambar Jains.
His idols are shown with four arms, and sometimes six, and his face is often shown as that of a varah. His vahan is Airavat, the white elephant with many trunks.
The temples
The tirth has three temples: of Shri Vasupujya Swami, of Shri Parshwanath and of Shri Manibhadra Vir. The shikharbandh temple is built of finely carved pink stone, its roof crowded with small spires and guardian lions.
Worship and festivals
Shri Manibhadra Vir is specially worshipped on Ashtami, Chaudas and Diwali, and on the Pancham of every month large numbers of devotees come for worship. Sunday and Thursday are held to be his favourite days, and sukhadi and shreefal are offered as prasad.
On Aso Sud 5 the tirth holds a havan and the Shri Manibhadra Vir mahapujan, with snatra puja, akhand deepak sthapan and other pujas. On festivals the trust arranges buses from Ahmedabad.
Women devotees may take darshan and offer prayers, but do not do puja with kesar and chandan.
