Shri Kunthunath: life and stories

In a former life he was a king in Mahavideh who took diksha and, through the aradhana of the twenty sthanak, bound the Tirthankar naam karma; he was then born as a dev in the higher devlok.
On Ashadh Vad 9 his soul came into the womb of Queen Shri, wife of King Sur of Hastinapur, and she saw the fourteen great dreams.
The tradition says that his mother dreamt of a heap (kunthu) of jewels, so he was named Kunthu. His chinh is the goat.
He was born on Chaitra Vad 14, and the Indras celebrated the janmabhishek on Meru.
Like Shantinath before him, Kunthunath was both a chakravarti, the sixth, and a Tirthankar.
After the Lokantik devs came to request him and a year of varshidaan, he took diksha on Chaitra Vad 5 with a thousand kings.
He attained kevalgyan on Chaitra Sud 3; the devs built the samavasaran and the fourfold sangh was set up.
On Chaitra Vad 1 Shri Kunthunath attained nirvan on Sammet Shikhar.
