Shri Suparshvanath: life and stories

In a former life he was a king in Mahavideh who took diksha and, through the aradhana of the twenty sthanak, bound the Tirthankar naam karma; he was then born as a dev in the higher devlok.
On Shravan Vad 8 his soul came into the womb of Queen Prithvi, wife of King Pratishtha of Varanasi, and she saw the fourteen great dreams.
The tradition says that while the Prabhu was in the womb, his mother's sides (parshva) became healthy and beautiful, so he was named Suparshva. His chinh is the swastik.
He was born on Jeth Sud 12, and the Indras celebrated the janmabhishek on Meru.
After the Lokantik devs came to request him and a year of varshidaan, he took diksha on Jeth Sud 13 with a thousand kings.
He attained kevalgyan on Maha Vad 6; the devs built the samavasaran and the fourfold sangh was set up.
On Maha Vad 7 Shri Suparshvanath attained nirvan on Sammet Shikhar.
Images of Suparshvanath are often shown with a serpent hood over the head, which helps tell them apart from images of Parshvanath; the swastik is his chinh.
